Vegan cinnamon buns

Tomorrow is "Cinnamon bun day" here in Sweden, so of course I had to bake some vegan cinnamon buns this weekend when I had the day off from work.

Imorgon är det kanelbullens dag I Sverige, så självklart var jag tvungen att baka veganska kanelbullar i helgen när jag var ledig från jobbet. 

I've actually never made cinnamon buns myself before, not even non-vegan ones. Well there's got to be a first time for everything, so I just looked up some different recipes and started to bake. 

When making vegan cinnamon buns you just use dairy-free margarine instead of butter and plant-based milk (I used oats milk) instead of cows milk. I also brushed them with oats milk instead of egg before putting them in the oven.

Jag har faktiskt aldrig gjort egna kanelbullar förut, inte heller icke-veganska. Det finns dock en första gång för allt så jag kollade upp lite olika recept och började baka. 

När man gör veganska kanelbullar så byter man bara ut smöret mot mjölkfritt margarin och plant-baserad mjölk (jag använde havremjölk) istället för komjölk. Jag penslade de även med havremjölken istället för ägg innan jag körde in de i ugnen. 


Vegan cinnamon buns

1. Start out with crumble down the yeast in a big bowl. Melt the margarine on low heat in a saucepan. Mix in the plant-based milk and heat it until it's lukewarm. Pour into the bowl and mix with the yeast. 

2. Stir down the cardamom, salt, sugar and some of the flour. Add the rest of the flour and knead till you've got a nice dough. Put a cloth over and let rise for 30-45 minutes. 

3. When the dough has risen to the double size it's time to roll it out. Divide the dough in two and roll it out flat. 

4. Mix together the filling and spread on the dough (make sure that the margarine is soft). Roll it up and cut them with a knife till equally sized buns. Let rise under a cloth for 30 minutes

5. Brush the buns with some plant-based milk and sprinkle over some granulated sugar if desired. Put in the middle of the oven on 225°C for around 5-10 minutes. Take out of the oven and let cool down a bit. Done!
